Unveiling the Darkness: Mr. Alfonso Watts Showcases "The Men In The Shadows" at The London Book Fair

The London Book Fair 2026, held at Olympia, London from March 10 to March 12, proved to be an incredible stage for emerging and established authors alike. Among the standout titles presented by Bookwrights House was the gripping supernatural thriller, The Men In The Shadows, written by Mr. Alfonso Watts.

With a compelling book campaign featuring high-quality physical displays and an interactive digital showcase, Mr. Watts’s work invited readers to step into a dark, secret world where past debts are finally coming due.

The Plot: A Global Supernatural Thriller

The Men In The Shadows dives into a chilling premise: eons ago, an evil, dark spirit invaded the world, entirely hell-bent on ushering in Armageddon. To accomplish this sinister goal, the entity offered desires to people throughout the world in exchange for mortal debts.

These individuals—the original "men in the shadows"—entered into an agreement with the evil entity, aiding in its destructive plan of mass murder across the globe. Now, after benefiting from centuries of prosperity, the descendants of these shadowy figures are being called upon to pay the debts of their ancestors. The novel promises a tense fight for survival as each family faces the dark, supernatural challenges that await them. 

The Inspiration Behind the Book

What inspires such a sprawling and dark narrative? According to Mr. Watts, the journey of writing The Men In The Shadows was a unique one. Though he notes that he never originally thought he would become a published author, the story proved relatively easy to produce. 

The spark for the book came from listening to a cover of Jackson Browne's song "Lives In The Balance" by the reggae group Third World. While the idea of powerful men ruling the world behind the scenes had been in his mind for years, the specific image of the shadowy leader actually came to him in a dream. Influenced by literary giants like Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe, Watts found that once he started writing, the story "began to grow legs" and evolved in entirely unanticipated directions. 

From Real Estate to Supernatural Suspense

Interestingly, Mr. Watts brings a highly professional background to his creative pursuits. By day, he works as a Senior Property Tax Consultant and a Licensed Realtor. He notes that he loves his day-to-day career, and when the seasonal nature of his work slows down, it provides him with the perfect opportunity to channel his creative energy into writing and promoting his books.
